Une artiste de la région donne une œuvre inspirée par une patiente à l'Hôpital Shriners pour enfants de Philadelphie

Myrissa McAndrews created works to reflect the strong soul of patients

Myrissa McAndrews is an artist based in southern New Jersey. A painter and sculptor, McAndrews works with a variety of materials ranging from watercolor, clay, concrete and oil paint. She is most well-known for her large, intricately-layered abstract work that has been exhibited across the country.

The inspiration behind the series of artwork donated to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Philadelphia is Natalie, a vibrant 5-year-old girl from South Harrison, New Jersey. She was born prematurely and spent the first portion of her life in the NICU. Natalie was diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, a left clubfoot and several other conditions. Her mother, Martha, sought out the care of Shriners Hospitals for Children - Philadelphia because of the comprehensive family-centered care offered by the staff. Corinna Franklin, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon; Bethany Lipa, M.D., physical medicine and rehabilitation physician; and her favorite physical therapists, Marci Bienkowski and Courtney Mullen, provide care for Natalie, all under one roof.

Natalie's mom, Martha, is also Myrissa's best friend. Myrissa has accompanied them to the hospital, participated in hospital fundraisers and has seen first-hand the difference that Shriners Hospitals for Children - Philadelphia has made in Natalie's life.

This donated series of artwork acts to revitalize the atmosphere around the hospital and reflects the strong souls that come through the doors.

"I hope these colorful pieces bring peace and comfort to patients, families and staff at this compassionate facility. Most of all, thank you to the brave Natalie who inspired this series with her strength and perseverance in everything she faces," stated Myrissa.

In addition to creating this specific series to encourage Natalie and other patients, families and staff at the hospital, Myrissa has helped Natalie's family raise over 11 000 $ to cover the expenses of caring for a child with special needs.
