Appointments and admissions

For scheduling or admissions questions, call 503-221-3422. Our patients have a more positive clinical outcome if referred to us as soon as a need is identified.

Walk-in fracture/sports injury clinic

The walk-in fracture and sports injury clinic at Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland accepts patients with either known or suspected fractures. Our walk-in fracture and sports injury clinic is held from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday (except holidays), with no appointment needed. An orthopaedic surgeon and/or a physician's assistant will evaluate your child. For more information, call our main line at 503-241-5090. If you have an X-ray already, please bring it with you if possible.

First-time patients

If your child has a condition for which Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland offers treatment, please contact our main line. A new patient intake coordinator will help you schedule an appointment for your child. The coordinator will partner with you to gather the necessary information that will allow us to evaluate whether your child can benefit from care at the Portland Shriners Hospital.


At Shriners Hospitals for Children - Portland, there are no barriers to care. We accept new patients with or without insurance.

We accept many types of insurance, including Medicaid and Oregon Health Plan, as well as similar programs in surrounding states. For more information on insurance, please visit our Medical records and insurance page. If you have insurance (including Medicaid), please have your health insurance information available when you call us. For more information, or if the cost of your child’s care creates undue hardship on your family, please contact the financial counseling department at 503-221-3702. You will be directed toward a voicemail. Please leave a message and we will return your call within 24 hours.

Outpatient clinic patients

If your child is not a first-time patient at the Portland Shriners Hospital and you want to schedule, reschedule or cancel a follow-up clinic appointment, or for questions about registration, please call our outpatient scheduling department at 503-221-3422.

Please bring to your appointment:

  • A list of current medications your child is taking
  • Any applicable X-rays of your child
  • Your child’s primary care provider’s name, address, phone and fax numbers
  • Insurance cards (if applicable)

Pre-admission visit

If you have a planned admission, you can expect a phone call from your child's care manager one to four weeks prior to your admission date. Your care manager will assist you with pre-admission and discharge planning and a pre-admission appointment will be scheduled. If for some reason you find it necessary to cancel the admission, please call your assigned care manager as soon as possible.

Surgery patients

If you have questions about you or your child’s scheduled surgery or the admission process, please call your assigned care manager or our surgical coordinator at 971-544-3326.

Day of surgery

We will do our best to make your family's stay with us as stress-free as possible, beginning at the time of your arrival. Please go to registration when you arrive at the hospital. Once registered, you will be directed to the pre/post-surgical unit. You will be seen by the admission nurse who will perform a health history prior to your surgery. Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will also see you at this time to answer any questions.


Each patient is assigned a nurse to care for him or her. You may have many questions about the hospital, your child's appointment/surgery and the care that you or your child will be receiving. The nursing staff is always available to provide you with the information you need.
