Shriners from the San Francisco Bay Area traveled to Sacramento on Monday, August 21, to present Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California with a check for 35 000 $. The donation was presented by Asiya Potentate Mike Dwyer at the monthly meeting of the Shriners Hospital Board of Governors. Dave Johnson, chairman of the board, accepted the check on behalf of the hospital.
The money was raised by two Asiya Shrine clubs. The Camel Herders raised 31 000 $ and the Arabian Unit raised 4 000 $. All funds support Shriners Hospitals for Children in its mission to provide specialized pediatric care to children regardless of the families' ability to pay.
Following the check presentation, Howard Feinberg, also a member of Asiya Shriners, presented the hospital with a generous donation of brand new, collector-grade stuffed bears. The bears were given to Mr. Feinberg by Joetta Orlowski of Wisconsin, who wanted to donate the collection of stuffed animals to children. Mrs. Orlowski decided to donate to Shriners Hospitals for Children after her daughter met Mr. Feinberg at a theater production and asked him about his Masonic ring. Mr. Feinberg, in turn, connected the family to the hospital.
As a regional pediatric medical center, Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California serves children in the San Francisco Bay area and Silicon Valley. Asiya Shriners is located in San Mateo, and many of its members live in San Francisco and in communities on the Peninsula.
